Privacy Officer

Mater is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Privacy Officer to join our Information Management team on a part-time, permanent basis (0.7 FTE). Based at our South Brisbane campus, this role will support the Privacy Office in response to increased workload associated with the opening and ongoing operations of Mater Hospital Springfield.

This is a unique opportunity to play a vital role in protecting patient privacy while also contributing to the efficient coordination of external correspondence and administrative processes within a high-performing team. This position sits within a critical function of Mater, supporting the safe, compliant release of patient information and ensuring requests are managed accurately and within required timeframes. 

Salary range: $39.79 - $44.25 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits!  

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you will be responsible for supporting both privacy and administrative functions, including:

  • Receiving and actioning requests for patient information from patients and authorised third parties
  • Providing advice on processes for requesting and releasing information
  • Validating request and release authorisations to ensure compliance with privacy requirements
  • Managing incoming and outgoing correspondence, including external requests
  • Supporting administrative processes including document preparation, scanning and record management
  • Actioning requests within required timeframes and ensuring accuracy of information released
  • Escalating complex or sensitive matters to the Manager, Information Privacy Office
  • Using hospital information systems and relevant applications to complete tasks
  • Identifying opportunities to improve privacy and correspondence processes
  • Adhering to Mater policies, procedures and relevant legislation including the Australian Privacy Principles

About you

You are a motivated and detail-oriented professional with experience in health information or administrative environments. You will bring:

  • Experience working within a Health Records Service/Department or a healthcare administrative environment
  • Knowledge of health record management principles and/or administrative processes
  • Understanding of the Australian Privacy Principles and confidentiality requirements
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a busy environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn hospital systems
