Stirling Council as a whole, and the Governance Service in particular, have embarked on an exciting transformation programme to best place the Council to meet the needs of its citizens. We are looking for a lead solicitor to join our Legal Team to support the Chief Officer – Governance and the Legal Manager. This is an opportunity for an ambitious solicitor to make their mark and progress their career in local government.

The caseload will include commercial contracts and procurement, property and various project work. In addition, the postholder will support the Team Leader – Information Governance in relation to the provision of legal advice in complex cases relating to the Council’s legal obligations under FOI,EIR and Data Protection legislation, in addition to dealing with appeals and responses to statutory regulators such as the Scottish Information Commissioner and the UK Information Commissioner. In both cases, the lead solicitor will be required to support and assist the Legal Team Leaders in service transformation activities. Analytical and communications skills and political awareness are essential, together with a commitment to customer-focused public services.

This is an excellent opportunity for a solicitor seeking to broaden and develop their existing legal knowledge, and to influence and impact on service delivery. This opportunity will be of particular interest for those who have experience in contract law matters and experience of dealing with FOI, EIR and DP requests, and those who wish to expand and/or develop their skills in service delivery. Full support and training will be provided to the right candidate. The Council is also committed to the professional development of its staff with opportunities available for the successful candidate.

If you would like to have an informal discussion please contact Mark Easton, Legal Team Leader – Commercial, Property & Transformation at eastonm@stirling.gov.uk.

The successful candidate will be required to undertake Level 1 Disclosure check. If your application is progressed after the interview, you will be asked to complete the form and have your details verified.
