A bit about the role

  • Overview of the position – This is a senior specialist advisory leadership role within the Bankwest Data and Privacy Centre of Excellence, focused on privacy, data governance and records management in a modern digital banking environment.
  • Key purpose – The role exists to provide guidance on privacy and data risk, support safe and sustainable growth, and help deliver strong customer outcomes as Bankwest continues its digital transformation.
  • Main responsibilities – You’ll lead a specialist advisory team, provide privacy advice across projects and business initiatives, oversee compliance-related activities, refine advisory processes, and represent Bankwest in broader Group forums and working groups.
  • Team context – You’ll sit within the Risk, Strategy and Performance Team and report to the Executive Manager Data and Privacy Risk, while working closely with Bankwest leadership and counterparts across the Commonwealth Bank Group.
  • Impact – Your work will help shape how a digital bank approaches privacy, data governance, records management and AI-enabled risk management, improving governance outcomes for the business and customers.

Your day-to-day

  • Daily tasks – You’ll provide strategic advice on privacy and data risks, support change initiatives and business planning, lead compliance projects, manage privacy statements and notices, and drive continuous improvement across advisory practices.
  • Tools used – You’ll work across governance, risk and advisory frameworks and use AI-enabled tools thoughtfully to improve how risk is managed and advice is delivered.
  • Collaboration – You’ll work closely with your team of specialists, Bankwest leadership, project and transformation teams, and peers across the broader CBA Group.
  • Decision-making – You’ll provide senior input on privacy matters, influence risk decisions, prioritise advisory activity, and help guide the direction of specialist privacy, data governance and records management support.
  • Problem-solving – You’ll navigate complex regulatory and business challenges, balancing risk management, customer outcomes and commercial priorities in a fast-evolving environment.

  • Mindset or attitude – You’re curious, pragmatic and proactive, with a growth mindset and genuine enthusiasm for learning and applying new concepts across privacy, data and AI-enabled risk management.
  • Work style – You work well in fast-paced, evolving environments, can manage competing priorities, and know how to balance independent thinking with strong collaboration.
  • Nice-to-haves – Deep expertise in privacy is highly valued, but we’re equally interested in high-performing professionals from risk, legal, consulting, governance or transformation backgrounds who bring strong advisory capability and the ability to quickly build subject matter expertise.

We’re interested in hearing from people with:

  • Relevant experience – Experience in risk management, compliance, privacy, governance, consulting, financial services, legal, government or transformation environments.
  • Core skills – Capability in leading specialist advisory teams, influencing senior stakeholders, managing risk, and delivering pragmatic advice in complex environments.
  • Knowledge areas – Familiarity with Australian privacy laws, regulatory frameworks, data governance, records management, and ideally emerging approaches to AI-enabled risk management or ability to quickly upskill in these areas with support
  • Problem-solving ability – A strong track record of applying sound judgement, critical thinking and practical problem-solving to complex or ambiguous challenges.
  • Communication style – Clear, credible and collaborative communication, with the ability to influence senior leaders and build trusted relationships across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Adaptability – Comfort working in changing environments, learning new domains quickly, and continuously improving ways of working.
  • Values or mindset – Curiosity, ownership, collaboration and a commitment to delivering sustainable outcomes for the business and customers.
