Location: Based in Sydney CBD, with hybrid working options available. Other office locations may be available as well, however, attendance to Sydney will still be required as needed

About Us

Governance, Risk and Assurance (GRA) supports the Department of Customer Service (DCS) by implementing robust governance standards, systems and policies.  The Team encompasses the functions of Privacy, Compliance, Enterprise Risk and Internal Control Systems. We work together to help DCS reduce the risk from our operations, promote a culture of compliance and maintain effective reporting and control management systems.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced professional to lead the development and delivery of privacy governance initiatives across DCS.

You will play a key role in shaping department-wide privacy policy, frameworks and tools, and provide expert advisory support on complex privacy, risk and legislative matters, ensuring alignment with the PPIP Act and HRIP Act.

You will also lead initiatives to strengthen information protection, data governance and privacy risk management, including oversight of privacy incidents and data breaches.

As a senior member of the team, you will influence stakeholders, uplift organisational capability, and support Privacy Leads to deliver consistent and effective privacy outcomes across the Department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of privacy policies, frameworks and standards aligned with the PPIP Act and HRIP Act
  • Provide expert advisory on complex privacy, legislative and risk management issues
  • Oversee and guide Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and privacy risk management activities
  • Lead and support management of privacy incidents and data breaches, including governance and reporting
  • Drive uplift of privacy capability, maturity and awareness across DCS
  • Develop and implement tools, templates and guidance to support consistent practices
  • Promote privacy-by-design, strong data handling and information protection practices
  • Engage and influence senior stakeholders to achieve strategic outcomes
  • Monitor emerging risks, legislative changes and best practice in privacy governance

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Have experience in managing governance programs for privacy or risk internal control systems
  • Highly desirable that you have had experience with internal control systems
  • Be able to research, design and deliver projects and programs to support business outcomes
  • Contribute to strategic and continuous improvement plans
  • Be able to communicate well to a variety of audiences in different formats
  • Negotiate and influence outcomes with peers and executive leadership to ensure optimal service delivery
  • Maintain awareness of issues, policies and solutions.
