Who we’re looking for

Toyota’s Privacy & Governance Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Privacy & Governance Consultant - Product & Connected Technology.

Reporting to the Privacy & Governance Senior Manager, Connected & Product, the person in this role will support privacy initiatives across vehicle, software, and connected operations, ensuring compliance with privacy regulations, managing privacy risks, and driving cross-functional collaboration.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing priorities and complex tasks effectively.

This position is based in Plano, Texas. The selected candidate will be expected to reside within commutable distance of this location.

What you’ll be doing

  • Deciding on the appropriate privacy risk mitigation measures for new connected vehicle technologies, software applications, and AI-powered systems, ensuring compliance with privacy laws while balancing business and technical requirements.

  • Determining the scope and depth of Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) for new projects, including which risks to prioritize, which mitigation strategies to implement, and how to ensure that privacy concerns are fully addressed before product or service launches.

  • Deciding how to allocate resources across multiple privacy-related initiatives, prioritizing projects based on regulatory urgency, business needs, and the complexity of privacy compliance challenges, while managing timelines and budgets.

  • Deciding how to best integrate privacy-by-design principles into the development lifecycle of connected vehicle products, ensuring that privacy is embedded in the technology and operational processes without compromising innovation or user experience.

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s or (or higher) in Law, Business, Information Technology, Engineering, or a closely related field.

  • 5+ years of experience in privacy, data protection, or regulatory compliance, preferably within the automotive, connected systems, or technology industries.

  • Strong understanding of privacy laws and regulations (GDPR, CCPA, etc.), especially as they apply to connected vehicles, mobile apps, and AI technologies.

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams to identify and mitigate privacy risks.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with strong project management skills and the ability to deliver within deadlines and on budget.

  • Deep knowledge of privacy-by-design and privacy-by-default principles and their application in technical environments.

  • Solid understanding of AI, machine learning, and data science, particularly in relation to privacy concerns in connected vehicles.

  • Certification in privacy (e.g., CIPP, CIPM) or the commitment to obtain within 6 months.

Added bonus if you have

  • Master’s degree in Law, Business, Information Technology, Engineering, or a closely related field.

  • Experience conducting comprehensive Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs).
