Business Overview

The Technology Management Division (TMD) provides corporate IT, cyber security, and privacy governance to Rakuten Group companies and essential business management for technology organizations, thereby enabling innovation and strengthening its technology foundation. Within TMD, the Information Security Supervisory Department (ISSD) combines proactive cyber defense with strategic information security, privacy, and data governance to protect the company’s global assets and data.

The Information Security & Privacy Governance Department (ISPD) enables and accelerates business growth by establishing, maintaining, and enhancing robust information security, privacy, data, and AI governance frameworks across the Rakuten Group. We ensure Rakuten's global operations are secure, compliant, and innovative by adhering to regulatory requirements, providing comprehensive employee training, strategically managing data assets, and governing AI responsibly.

Global Privacy Office (GPO), a division within ISPD, oversees privacy compliance and governance across the entire Rakuten Group. Working in close collaboration with privacy officers at each group company, we manage the frameworks that support Rakuten’s diverse and cutting-edge service offerings. Rakuten Group, Inc. operates a diverse portfolio of services that continues to expand daily. This role is primarily responsible for supporting the privacy compliance of Rakuten Total Solutions, Inc. (RTS), which serves as a pillar for one of Rakuten’s core businesses: the telecommunications sector. Beyond telecommunications, RTS supports the Rakuten Group and various external client companies. This is a rewarding position that allows you to implement and monitor privacy governance initiatives across our headquarters and group companies. As privacy regulations become increasingly complex, we are looking for a highly motivated individual to join us in upholding Rakuten’s privacy compliance.

Even if you do not have prior experience in privacy protection, we welcome candidates who are eager to persistently tackle unknown tasks. Candidates who are not confident in their English but possess a strong desire to improve their language skills are also encouraged to apply.

Position Details

・ Consulting with business units on Privacy-by-Design service development, establishing privacy governance frameworks, and implementing privacy compliance for assigned group companies

・ Formulating internal rules for assigned group companies to elevate privacy protection standards

・ Conducting awareness initiatives, such as internal seminars on privacy protection

・ Providing advice on responding to customer privacy inquiries and media coverage regarding assigned group companies

・ Managing incidents involving potential privacy breaches at assigned group companies

・ Driving the above initiatives in collaboration with the headquarters’ privacy team

Mandatory Qualifications:

・ Challenging spirit to tackle new fields from scratch

・ Ability to perform desk work, including reading and analyzing legal documents

・ Experience working while communicating with stakeholders both inside and outside the organization

Desired Qualifications:

・ Over 5 years of professional work experience

・ Qualified Lawyer (attorney at law)

・ Practical experience in Legal or Compliance departments

・ Practical experience in Information Security or System Development

・ Knowledge or practical experience in the telecommunications industry

・ Basic knowledge of IT and AI, practical experience

・ Over 2 years of experience living abroad

・ Experience in customer relations or complaint handling (e.g., call centers)

・ Practical experience as a seminar instructor or consultant
