Job Purpose

The Privacy Compliance Principal Specialist supports the N.A. Region Data Governance Secretariat and the N.A. Region Compliance Secretariat, along with the Regional and Company Compliance and Privacy Officers, as a member of the N.A. Region Governance, Risk, Compliance & Ethics Office, with the execution of the Governance, Risk and Confidentiality (GRC) Unit activities and initiatives at the Regional and Company level, advancing GRC activities across Honda in the N.A. Region. 


This role serves as the Privacy Administrator for the North America Region as a leader of the Privacy Sub-Committee for the N.A. Region Data Governance Committee Secretariat and requires strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities. 


Additionally, the position requires a firm understanding of Honda Data Governance (Confidentiality, Document Retention, IT Security, Privacy), Corporate Governance, Risk Management, and Compliance & Ethics policies, principles and practices within Honda, with a focus on execution of organizational and GRC&E leadership directives.

Key Accountabilities

  • Serve as the Regional Privacy Administrator, administering Regional-level Privacy Sub-Committee under the N.A. Region Data Governance Committee and driving to completion annual activities including policy governance, training, monitoring, Privacy self-assessments, supporting annual audits of the program and reporting Regional privacy incidents, reporting results of all to GRC&E leadership and then to the Regional Compliance and Privacy Officer(s) and Regional Data Governance Committee.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders across the Region to develop and implement strategies focused on reducing the Region's overall privacy compliance risk exposure.
  • Interface directly with Company-level Compliance and Privacy Officers and Administrators to share information and manage cross-Company collaboration.
  • Investigate Regional-level privacy incidents on a need-be basis and ensure appropriate reporting and implementation / cascading of reoccurrence prevention measures and assist Company Privacy Administrators with the same.
  • Provide Privacy Administrator services at a Company-level as may be requested to support Honda's smaller Company operations.
  • Support cross-functional work within the GRC&E Department to progressively enhance GRC&E compliance governance management programs and trainings and to contribute to the achievement of Department key deliverables, targets and execution of projects.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

Minimum Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field, or equivalent experience.

 

Minimum Experience

  • 6-8 years of combined experience (or in a field where job knowledge and skills area applicable)
  • In-depth experience working as part of a team on global/regional/local operations to develop and execute governance, risk, compliance, confidentiality, or privacy projects and strategies as directed
  • Proven ability to coordinate large groups of information owners across companies, business units, divisions or departments to obtain or to share complex information
  • Strong experience working with senior organizational management

  • Advance knowledge and experience of key privacy areas (legal, HR, IT, R&D, product regulatory office, sales and finance)
  • Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally, fostering teamwork and achieving collective results. 
  • Advance working knowledge and experience with key governance, risk and confidentiality and compliance & ethics systems within Honda 
  • Tactical vision with the ability to independently perform and execute complicated directives with a high degree of discretion 
  • Working knowledge and experience working within a traditional Honda activity or business plan to achieve measurable targets
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present information to large groups of stakeholders
  • Strong problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to apply judgment and discretion to make sound decisions in a fast-paced setting
  • Strong interpersonal, relationship-building, negotiating, administrative and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated experience in administering, creating and maintaining collaborative content in and from Microsoft 360 applications and environments (teams, PowerPoint, excel, word, SharePoint)
  • Experience using a matter management system to log and track issues and inquiries from initiation to completion

  • Appropriate creation, update, governance and application of Honda Governance, Risk, Compliance & Ethics policies and procedures
  • Prioritization of work to meet competing deadlines and to complete required work according to plan as set forth by GRC&E leadership
  • When and how to initiate the start of work, communication of issues, and to follow the established process flows and policies/procedures of the Regional and Company Data Governance Committee, Compliance Committee, Risk Management Committee and related Honda organizations

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid workstyle (primarily on-site at a Honda location with 20% remote work available)
  • Normal office environment
  • Some travel to other Honda locations
  • Overtime as needed
