Our Governance and Legal team is currently seeking to appoint an Information Access and Privacy Officer to join a team dedicated to upholding the Department’s commitment to privacy principles and public access to information.

 

The Information Access and Privacy Officer provides advice and support to the Department and its network of agencies on information access and privacy matters. You will make decisions on applications for access to information under the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA Act) and provide advice on privacy matters under the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (PPIP Act).

 

In this role, you will also support statutory reporting and compliance functions relating to privacy and information access, contribute to the development and improvement of internal processes and procedures, and assist with the delivery of training to ensure staff understand their obligations in relation to access to information and privacy.

 

About You

 

To be successful in this role, you will have experience interpreting and providing advice on legislation. Working knowledge of the GIPA Act, the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998, and the Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002 is desirable, but not essential. You bring strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to provide clear, practical advice across a large and complex organisation.

 

You are a strong communicator who can build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels. Well organised and proactive, you can manage competing priorities, work independently and meet critical deadlines, while handling sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.

 

Key knowledge and experience

 

  • Previous demonstrated experience working in an environment requiring interpretation and advice on legislation.
