AI Governance

The Director, AI Governance Operations will be the organizational conscience and operational backbone for accelerating deployment of AI applications to transform clinical care and improve patient outcomes. The leader will oversee review, approval, and oversight of artificial intelligence applications deployed in the Mayo Clinic Practice. Reporting to the Senior Director, AIA, this leader will establish the frameworks, policies, and processes that ensure our clinical AI systems are focused on improving patient outcomes while at the same time maintaining Mayo's high standards for AI that is safe, equitable, explainable, and compliant with applicable federal and state regulations.

Managing a team of AI/ML and regulatory affairs experts, the Director, AI Governance is responsible for maintaining a transparent, low-friction, high-velocity process for innovators and product proponents to successfully meet Mayo requirements and expectations for high-value and transformative clinical AI applications. This will involve maintaining and continuously refining AIA's comprehensive governance program for enterprise clinical AI applications — covering product performance, safety, privacy, and security from enterprise implementation through the post-deployment life cycle. It will also involve ongoing adaptation to evolving Mayo models of care and patient experience, as well as regulatory and industry trends.  The Director must be vigorously customer-focused, data-driven, and willing to say "no" or "not yet" when proposed AI solutions do not meet Mayo expectations for enterprise scaling.

The Director partners with other AIA components to ensure that governance policies and processes leverage automation and AI technologies to the maximum extent possible. The Director will be the enterprise nexus for advancing Mayo's leadership in clinical implementation by partnering closely with Practice leaders across departments and sites, as well as other enterprise governance leaders and bodies.
