Consultant - Contracts Review and Data Privacy

Location: India (Pune / Hybrid) | 3 days WFO

Reporting To: Head of Legal PGS India

Role Summary: We are seeking an experienced In- House Attorney to support the PGS legal Office in India and leadership team across contracts review and data privacy. This role will serve as a trusted legal advisor for India operations, ensuring contracts review, negotiation, mitigating legal risk, and enabling business growth through practical and sound legal guidance. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in commercial contracts and data privacy, with the ability to work closely with business leaders, sourcing, privacy and global legal teams.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Contracts Review & Commercial Support:

• Review, draft, negotiate, and advise on a wide range of commercial contracts, including vendor agreements, service/license agreements, NDAs, consulting agreements, and client contracts.
• Ensure contracts align with company policies, risk tolerance, and Indian legal requirements.
• Identify legal risks in commercial arrangements and propose practical solutions to support business objectives.
• Conduct Post contractual audits and reporting.
• Maintain contract standards, templates, and playbooks for India business needs.

2. Data Privacy & Information Protection:

• Advise on compliance with Indian data protection and privacy laws, including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act) and related rules.
• Review and support implementation of privacy policies, data processing agreements, consent frameworks, and cross‑border data transfer mechanisms.
• Partner with IT, Security, HR, and Compliance teams on data incident management and breach response.
• Support privacy‑by‑design initiatives for India operations and aligned global programs.
• Assist with privacy risk assessments, training, and awareness initiatives.

3. Stakeholder Management & Business Partnership:

• Act as a legal business partner to the PGS India, its leadership team, HR, Finance, Sourcing and Operations teams.
• Collaborate with global Legal and Compliance teams to ensure alignment with enterprise policies and standards.
• Coordinate with external law firms and advisors, managing costs and quality of legal services.
• Provide training and awareness sessions to sourcing and functional teams on contract review and data privacy.

1. Education & Licensing:

• Bachelor’s degree in law (LL.B.) from a recognized university, additional diploma/degree in Indian data privacy would be preferred not mandatory.
• Qualified to practice law in India.

2. Experience:

• 10 to 15 years of relevant legal experience, preferably in a corporate legal office of a multinational company.
• Strong hands‑on experience in contracts management and data privacy.
• Experience supporting senior leadership and advising on business‑critical legal matters.
• Prior exposure to multinational or matrixed organizations is strongly preferred.

3. Skills & Competencies:

• Deep understanding of contract drafting, review, and negotiations.
• Ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear, practical business advice.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• High ethical standards, sound judgment, and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a fast‑paced environment.
