Position Summary:

The role of CCO is to provide advice and guidance to the leadership of the organization to mitigate potential risks and to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, procedures and contractual obligations.  This role is accountable for leading the organization’s Quality Assurance/Internal Audit, Ethics, Compliance, and Contract Management functions, and it has managerial responsibility for employees on the Compliance team.  This role is an executive of the organization and serves as the organization’s Corporate Secretary, as designated by the Board of Directors. 

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:


Provides advice and counsel on complex compliance issues, including, but not limited to, regulatory requirements, labor and employment matters, and other quality assurance issues.
Keeps leadership informed of new or changing laws and regulations that may impact the organization.
Leads the Quality Assurance/Internal Audit, Ethics, Compliance and Contract Management functions and is responsible for all aspects of managing the employees on the Compliance team.
Serves as the organization’s lead and main point of contact for accreditation processes.
Develops and monitors training programs for employees on regulatory and compliance matters.
Develops and implements policies and procedures for risk management.
Provides periodic updates to the Board of Directors on quality assurance, compliance, ethics, and possible risks affecting the organization.
Serves as Corporate Secretary and ensures compliance with the Board governance framework, updates Board Bylaws and policies, provides advice on governance matters, and ensures the Board is informed of its responsibilities and compliance obligations.
Collaborates with leadership to ensure business decisions align with applicable laws, regulations, standards, contractual obligations, and the organization’s policies and procedures.
Collaborates with external legal experts and law firms as necessary.
Serves as strategic advisor and counselor to the executive team on strategic matters and Company initiatives.
Performs other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications: Education, Certifications & Experience


Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year university required; Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school preferred
Preferred Certifications:  Licensed to practice law in Georgia and a member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia (or have the ability to obtain such licensure prior to employment by being a member in good standing with a state bar association in a jurisdiction that has reciprocity with Georgia and having practiced law in such jurisdiction for the requisite period of time)
Experience: Minimum of 7 years of experience in a senior-level (i.e., manager or director) compliance, audit, or quality assurance role required, with a preference for that experience to be in a healthcare or governmental setting that deals with Medicaid and/or providing services to intellectually and developmentally disabled individuals; preference for at least 5 years of experience practicing law, with at least 2 years’ experience in an in-house or non-profit setting.


Supervisory Responsibilities

This position leads the organization’s Compliance team with the assistance of the Director of Compliance.

While performing the duties of this job, the individual is frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The individual is occasionally required to sit, use hands to type, handle, or feel, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
